Ballet South is a local, non-profit student dance company under
the direction of Russell Sultzbach. The company began in 1993
with 6 students and incorporated with non-profit status in 1999.
Since then, local high– school students have been furthering
their education within the camaraderie of this performing
company. The belief that exposure to the arts enriches all our
lives fuels the dedication of both students and teachers.
Ballet South is the advance performing company of S.P.A.,
designed to allow the serious dancer age 14 and up a chance to
perform. The junior company is an extension of Ballet South
conducted by Christine French and directed by Russell Sultzbach.
This company is for dancers ages 10-13 interested in a more
expansive rehearsal and performance outlet. This takes a special
commitment, training, and financial obligation. There are
special training requirements necessary for both companies. The
auditions are held in the beginning of each dance season.
Each year Ballet South presents The Nutcracker at
Valencia Community College East Campus. The weekend includes the
Nutcracker Brunch at which performers are available for
autographs. Along with the weekend productions there are also
charity concerts for children from select schools in Orange and
Seminole counties, as well as other charitable organizations in
the Central Florida are.
Each spring Ballet South presents a Spring Concert.
This is a repertory concert which allows the dancers to perform
in multiple forms of dance, such as modern, jazz, and
contemporary ballet. For the Spring Concert guest choreographers
are brought in to set original pieces of work. There are also
charity concerts included with the Spring Concert to many
charity groups in the Central Florida Area.
Ballet South commits to performing for various
Community Festivals during the fall, winter holiday season, and
spring events. Ballet South is supported by the efforts of the
dancers, parent, and patrons. |
